Most of you must have noticed that from April 27th Pagerank started to update in a few website. April 29 is the some sort of an official date of the new pagerank update, which as google is used to do, was sudden.
I heard bothe negative and positive opinions about the new update which among the other seems to have “damaged” most webmaster communities.
I checked that pr5(pr=pagerank) webmaster forum dropped to as low as pr1 and pr2 which is a disaster for them. Some actually, have an uncertain future since their revenue will be limited from now own till the next update..
What is more, a lot of people have reported that some of their links must have not been included for some reason since their pagerank predictions were far higher than the ones they received. God Google have caused suspicions and nerves between webmasters…
I noticed one thing though. Google seems to favor blogs. Again the higher pr updates were at blogs(regardless their niche). That means that either blogs are the most easy to promote websites or that bloggers are the smartest SEOists
Well, for me personally, it’s been a good update. Our blog here got a pr2(hopefully will go better next update) and some of the websites of our group “climbed” as high as pr5!
Good Luck to all webmasters! And..don’t bother to ask when the next PageRank update will be…it shall be sudden as always..
No the article is not about a new 2,0 version of the well-known service alexa but its future. The improvement in their algorithms makes them actually one of the most competitive services at the moment since i believe it will soon “beat” google’s pagerank.
Alexa has been an alternative to google’s pagerank for years now. Their concept was better though, calculating traffic to show which is the TOP site and not backlinks. Unfortunately, all these years their traffic stats were dependent to the alexa toolbar and even though they had a better concept, they never managed to overcome google’s domination in the area.
That was till now. They claim that their new improved algorithms are calculating traffic in a lot more ways apart from alexa toolbar users and that they will calculate a lot more more website visitors to display actual and more accurate traffic results and rankings.
Could this be the end of google’s pagerank? Google unfortunately seems to have abandoned the google pagerank(they update it rarely…) whereas alexa promises even more often updates!
I, honestly, believe that the only way for google pagerank to “fight” the new alexa ranks is to implement alexa’s concept and apart of backlinks calculate traffic too before it gives out a pagerank number.
Yes, i know, time will show us…
Everyone know alexa’s traffic rankings system.
It’s actually used by many people to calculate the value of websites or ad spaces they may sell. However, the traffic ranking was generated by how many people with the alexa toolbar were visiting the website. After the increasing demand to add additional ways to meter the visitors and traffic of a website apart the toolbar alexa managed it!
The new alexa ranking system aggregates now data from multiple sources to give you a better indication of website popularity among the entire population of Internet users.
Though there is and some sort of dissapointment between webmasters since lots of rankings have changed and most times to a worse number..but that’s temporarily i think since with the next rank update and more visitors being calculated you’ll have your ranks boosted again!
It’s a great move to implement the alexa system with new features and we are eagerly anticipating to see how the new ranking will be!
Alexa pagerank…google pagerank…
Probably the two most common ways to caclulate how popular your website is and most times, based on them, calculate the estimate value of a domain name.
However, should we be based on both of them? Or choose the one that depicts reallity and is worthy?
I firmly believe that all webmasters should be based on Alexa PageRank, as it depends on the traffic your website gets and that’s what matters nowadays.
What do you think can get you more money? Traffic or backlinks? Because google’s pagerank is based on the number of backlinks your page has. I think that traffic is what monetizes your website…and who calculates your pagerank according to traffic? Alexa!
I don’t intend to ruin the fame of Google PR, but if you search in various webmaster communities you’ll see the dissapointment of webmasters about the “rare” Google PR(=PageRank) Updates which may take up to several months. Supposing you were dependent on Google PR to put ads on your website or any way you’ve chosen to monetize it, you may had to wait months to start earning any cash…
On the other side, Alexa PR’s updates are very frequent, actually i have seen lots of daily updates(!), and yes, they do depict the reality!
They measure your traffic and after that, according to the results they get, your website receive the appropriate traffic. That’s the reality people! not backlinks, traffic!
Why should a website with 40,000 backlinks(most of them may be bought in a permanent basis and counted by google’s algorythm) with zero content and only a few daily visitors should be considered more valuable than your website, which may have only 300 backlinks but get 1,000 daily visits average??
I honestly think Google has lost the game…it’s policy of pagerank just sounds like insane to me…
